Location: Wirral (Birkenhead) Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 DOE Hours: Full-Time, Permanent Working Pattern: On-Site

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Friday: 8:00am - 12:30pm

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established manufacturing business on the Wirral. Reporting directly to the Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting and contributing to the smooth running of day-to-day accounting operations.

This position would suit an ambitious finance professional looking to further develop their accounting career within a supportive and fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts

Support budgeting and forecasting processes

Maintain and reconcile the general ledger

Prepare and post journals, including accruals and prepayments

Perform bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies

Manage accounts receivable, including invoice posting and credit control activities

Provide accounts payable support during holiday cover periods

Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payment of suppliers

Monitor customer accounts and follow up on outstanding balances

Support payroll processing and related reconciliations

Assist with VAT return preparation and submission

Maintain the fixed asset register and calculate depreciation

Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls

Support year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors

Produce financial reports and analysis as required

Maintain accurate financial records and documentation

Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes and systems

Provide general administrative support to the finance department

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have

Previous experience within an accounting or finance position

Experience using Sage 200

AAT qualification or be actively studying towards AAT (or equivalent)

Strong numerical and analytical skills

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Strong organisational and time management skills

The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Effective communication skills with colleagues across the business
