Senior Accounts Officer

Are you an experienced accounts professional with a strong bookkeeping background and excellent systems knowledge?

Our client, a growing and professional business based in Harrogate town centre, is looking to recruit a Senior Accounts Officer to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function. This role would suit an experienced Bookkeeper, Senior Accounts Assistant, Accounts Officer, or a highly tech-savvy finance professional who enjoys improving processes, working with business systems, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Experience using MRI software would be highly advantageous, although candidates with strong accounting systems experience and the ability to quickly adapt to new platforms will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Managing the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting operations

Maintaining accurate financial records, ledgers, and reconciliations

Processing purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions

Raising invoices and managing payment allocations

Bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring

Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions

Credit control and debt management

Assisting with VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements

Producing management reports and financial information for senior stakeholders

Supporting month-end and year-end processes

Working with MRI and other finance systems to ensure data accuracy and reporting integrity

Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and system efficiencies

Liaising with external accountants and auditors when required

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience within a senior bookkeeping, accounts, or finance role

Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures

Previous responsibility for sales ledger, purchase ledger, reconciliations, and reporting

Experience using accounting software and business management systems

MRI software experience would be advantageous

Highly IT literate with strong Excel skills

Comfortable working with both manual processes and technology-driven systems

Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills

Ability to work independently and take ownership of workloads

A proactive approach with strong problem-solving abilities

Salary of £30,000 - £40,000, depending on experience

25 days holiday plus bank holidays

Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm
