UK and EU internships fall into three buckets: summer schemes (8–12 weeks, recruited in autumn the year before), year-long industrial placements (typically the third year of a 4-year sandwich degree), and shorter project-based internships at startups. Pay varies wildly: Big 4 / banking summer interns clear £600+/week; tech scaleups £450–650/week; creative-industry interns frequently below the Real Living Wage and worth scrutinising.
